From the Researcher's Diary

We are assessing the learning outcomes of children in the villages of the Ujjain district. A local youth researcher looks for 10 children from each village to answer questions giving an account of their mathematical and comprehensive abilities. We plan to cover 17 such villages.

As the researcher reaches a new village, the children surround him. The early volunteers who are also government school children bravely get in other children to participate. It doesn't take long for parents to get attracted to an unknown commotion in their village, curiously trying to find who is interested in their child's studies. They often encourage their children to perform, often prompting them to write answers.

Since the pandemic has knocked down the education structure, especially in the grassroots, it has become imperative to understand the learning gaps it has created among the children in the villages. MGMD is curious to understand this gap and design an informed intervention, in our quest to find out exactly what the child needs.
